All Android versions, Cupcake to Oreo. |
Desserts from A-Z
Android names all of their operating systems after sweets and desserts. They also name their versions in alphabetical order, except for A and B. It started with Cupcake, released in 2009. If you look up at the picture earlier, they are alphabetical. With the next version being Donut, then Eclair, and then Froyo, then the list goes on. This retrospective will be split into 4 parts: Part 1: Sweet Beginnings, Part 2: Android's Rise, Part 3: More Sweets, and Part 4: Modern Versions. Each one will tell you all about the version, including special and new functions, major updates, and other stuff! We will also add fun facts about each version. In the last part, we will take a look at possible names for the next Android version, Android P.
But whats a Bugdroid? And other questions
Q: What's a Bugdroid?
A: A Bugdroid - Or THE Bugdroid, is the mascot of Android. You know, that robot dude. That green guy. He's been the mascot for a long time. He just started to pop up everywhere while in development. Someone created it, put it on a app on the phone, and then people thought it looked cool. T-Mobile thought it was cool and started putting it in advertisements for their phones.
Q: How many versions are there?
A: There are a total of 13 versions named after desserts, while 15 if you count the Alpha and Beta versions. Some versions had different names during development, like Kit Kat, for example. It was originally "Key Lime Pie", until a deal was made with Nestle to name it Kit Kat. Lollipop was "Lemon Meringue Pie". Marshmallow was "Macadamia Nut Cookie", Nougat was "New York Cheesecake" and Oreo was "Oatmeal Cookie".
So, that's it. I'll see you next week for the first part. However, this post does not count as the post for this week, expect another tommorow, a weird one...
